Visceral Medicine 2018
Dr. Andrea Schenk and Sirko Pelzl presented “Mixed Reality for surgery” on 13th September at the Visceral Congress in Munich.
From 12th to 15th September 2018, the 73rd Annual Meeting of the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) took place in Munich. The motto of the interdisciplinary congress was “Vision gestaltet Wirklichkeit: Spannungsfeld Ökonomie – Mensch – Digitalisierung”.
Dr. Andrea Schenk from the Fraunhofer MEVIS Institute and Sirko Pelzl, CEO apoQlar GmbH, gave a lecture on thursday afternoon of the congress entitled: “Looking into the future with HoloLens: Mixed Reality (MR) for surgery”. The focus of the lecture was on the one hand the general overview of mixed reality/ HoloLens in the operating room and on the other hand the image analysis and resection planning using the example of the liver and the MR software Virtual Surgery Intelligence (VSI). At the same time, the first intraoperative intervention in the liver area was reported, which took place in Asklepios Barmbek with Prof. Oldhafer. apoQlar works in close cooperation with Fraunhofer MEVIS in the liver area.
“The visceral congress was very important for us. We want to be close to the doctors, our users. The lecture was very well received. We had a lot of feedback immediately afterwards, many questions and many who would like to try it out. I was particularly pleased about the enormous interest on the part of the doctors in artificial intelligence for medicine,” said Sirko Pelzl.
