Virtual Surgery Intelligence
Photorealistic CT and MRI images
Natural Rendering is a new visualization method that lets images from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) look natural and realistic. The gray layer images enlighten in the true tissue colors and maintain the factual 3-dimensional depth that bodies have.
- Easier localization of commercial structures and bones
- Faster and more precise diagnoses
- Perspective from all angles
- More precise surgery planning
About VSI Natural Rendering
The special feature of the Natural Rendering process is that even the finest tissue structures become more visible and more plastic. An amateur is already able to recognize such photorealistic structures. Thus, this technology is also suitable for patient education and the training of medical students. But the trained physician’s eye discovers even more. So it is given that doctors use it to diagnose (if diseased structures have to be recognized). Additionally, surgeons can apply it for their surgical planning. To detect the finest blood vessel and nerve fiber, as well as for intraoperative adjustments during the surgical procedure.
Mixed / Augmented Reality technologies allow the user to view 3-dimensional images 3-dimensionally. The Natural Rendering images are loaded into the Microsoft HoloLens glasses and allow the user to dive visually into the pathology. Hence the user can move it, walk around it and take advantage of the realistic depths that we are familiar with from the real world.
The Natural Rendering itself is calculated by a specially developed algorithm. This gives the MRI and CT images their realistic appearance in the post-processing, corresponding to the real body.
The application fields are wide-ranging. Radiologists can use it for preoperative diagnostics and surgeons for surgical planning, to review the anatomy and pathology of the patient. Thus they are able to plan the most optimal surgical approach and damage the tissue as little as possible. Natural rendering is especially useful during the operation. Since the natural appearance of the images facilitates orientation and precision. Trauma surgeons, for example, can detect bone fragments in the tissue, familiarize themselves with the anatomical conditions and make adjustments during the operation.
